When the Government announced nationwide lock-down measures on 23rd March 2020, we had the idea to create a radio streaming service to keep our fellow neighbours entertained, supported and informed through the uncertain times and lockdown that lay ahead.

We originally planned to run the service for three months – but the response from our listeners was overwhelming, leading us to develop a full-scale community radio station for Lymm and South Warrington.

England remains in Step 3

The government has announced a 4-week pause at Step 3. Step 3 restrictions remain in place, and you should follow the guidance on the webpage, which explains what you can and cannot do.

It is expected that England will move to Step 4 on 19 July, though the data will be reviewed after 2 weeks in case the risks have reduced. The government will continue to monitor the data and the move to Step 4 will be confirmed one week in advance.

However, some restrictions will change on 21 June. From 21 June, there will be changes to the rules on:

  • weddings and civil partnership ceremonies and wedding receptions or civil partnership celebrations
  • commemorative events following a death such as a wake, stone setting or ash scattering
  • large events pilots
  • care home visits
  • domestic residential visits for children

The Delta Variant

The new COVID-19 variant (known as Delta) spreads more easily than the other variants that were previously most common. To help stop the spread, you should:

  • Get both doses of the vaccine when you are offered it, and encourage others to do so as well
  • Participate in surge testing in your local area, whether you are vaccinated or not
  • Self-isolate immediately if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste) or if you’ve tested positive for COVID-19

Additional Local Advice

The Delta variant is spreading in many parts of the country, including Warrington.  With this in mind you should also take particular caution when meeting anyone outside your household or support bubble. Wherever possible, you should try to:

  • Meet outside rather than inside where possible
  • Keep 2 metres apart from people that you do not live with (unless you have formed a support bubble with them), this includes friends and family you don’t live with
  • Minimise travel in and out of affected areas

As an introduction to Mental Health Awareness Week 2021, Juliet talks about Oxytocin - a "happy hormone" that is known to have a positive effect on mood and emotions.

Oxytocin has the power to regulate our emotional responses and pro-social behaviors, including trust, empathy, gazing, positive memories, processing of bonding cues, and positive communication.

Release Oxytocin naturally by connecting with nature - and you will feel better!  Listen to Juliet's presentation on Oxytocin right here.

Juliet has also provided a FREE meditation session that can help with your mental health and wellbeing.  Download it below and enjoy in your own time.

Juliet has very kindly put together a wondeful 10 minute meditation session which will help you to relax and connect with nature.  Set some time just for yourself and find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed.  Turn off your mobile.  Sit or lie back and enjoy your meditation session.  Remember, practice makes perfect!

The importance of CPR was highlighted globally at the weekend, when Danish footballer Christian Eriksen collapsed during his country’s opening Euro 2020 match in Copenhagen.

The distressing event has highlighted that we could all benefit from some basic first-aid training, especially in CPR.

Dr Rosie was talking with Phil on the morning show about CPR and what you should do in an emergency.  You can listen again right here.

The event has also highlighted that Lymm could benefit from an additional defibrillator in the village centre.  Currently, the only defibrillator in the centre is at The Spread Eagle - however, this is cannot be accessed 24 hours a day.  There are other defibrillators in the wider area - including in Statham and Oughtrington - but Lymm Radio will shortly be launching a fundraising appeal for a centrally located defibrillator in the village, which can be accessed 24 hours a day.  Listen out for more details!
