Get Your Winter Flu Vaccination

share close

Winter flu season is here

Symptoms of flu are similar to a bad cold, including high temperature, tiredness and aching muscles  but are usually more intense.

You must have heard the £10 note analogy?  Well, if you’ve ever had flu you’ll know it is spot on!

Flu usually gets better in about a week if you rest, keep warm, drink plenty of fluids and take painkillers – but it can take a while before your energy levels are back up to normal.

Many people think that flu can be treated with antibiotics – but it can’t, so your best line of defence is to get vaccinated each year.

The NHS say that more people are likely to contract flu this winter as fewer people will have built up natural immunity to it during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Unfortunately, if you get flu and Covid-19 at the same time, research show you are more likely to become seriously ill.

Getting vaccinated against flu (and Covid-19) will provide protection for you and those around you.

The flu vaccine is safe and effective.  It’s available free on the NHS if you fall into one of the following categories:

  • are 50 and over (including those who’ll be 50 by 31 March 2022)
  • have certain health conditions
  • are pregnant
  • are in long-stay residential care
  • receive a carer’s allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person who may be at risk if you get sick
  • live with someone who is more likely to get infections (such as someone who has HIV, has had a transplant or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis)
  • frontline health or social care workers

You can get your vaccination at several places including your GP Surgery, local pharmacy (Boots and Lloyds in Lymm offer the service) and at hospital appointment.
