Yes, we know. That’s not a picture of the toll bridge – but we knew it would grab your attention!
The fact is, the Warburton toll bridge is in the news again.  A proposed order has been produced – and you only have a limited time to make your views known.
Perhaps you agree with the order – but we suspect that many won’t – and objections must be made before 18th January.
The proposed Warburton Bridge Order makes a number of changes:
It raises the cost of the crossing from 12p to £1, but that’s not all.
The order puts a lot of new Bylaws in place – including a ban on horses from using the crossing.  And if you break down whilst on the crossing, instead of calling your usual breakdown service, you will need to pay the Manchester Ship Canal Company for recovery.
The order also tries to establish that money from the tolls will cover the maintenance cost of the bridge needed by the ship canal – a bridge that some say should be maintained at the expense not of the tolls, but the MSCc.
You can read the order and supporting documents here. https://www.warburtontollbridge.co.uk/twao-application/
You can also put in your own submission or objection about the toll order.
Any submission needs to be emailed to transportinfrastructure@dft.gov.uk – must include “Rixton and Warburton Bridge Order” in the subject line. However, you must email by Tuesday 18th January.  Please be sure to include your name and address in the email.
Phil Roberts caught up with Cllr Graham Gowland on the morning show today.  You can listen again right here.
Cllr Gowland is not in favour of the Tolls. He commented :
“If you disagree with the increase in tolls and the new rules proposed, I would be emailing saying:
• You disagree with the increase in the Toll to use Warburton Bridge Road
• The Manchester Ship Canal Company should pay for their own obligations
• The Manchester Ship Canal Company must not apply unreasonable new laws to Warburton Bridge Road
You could make these 3 points and if you want to expand on your submission, see this link for more points.”
