Earlier this week, The Manchester Ship Canal Company announced a consultation ahead of proposed refurbishment and improvement works to Warburton Bridge. As part of the proposal, the current toll would be increased from 12p to £1 – each way – and is highly likely to be increased each year thereafter.
News of the proposal has caused a great deal of concern – and anger – within the community, with calls for the toll to be scrapped altogether.
Councellor Graham Gowland (Lymm Parish Council & Lymm South, Warrington Borough Council) was our special guest on the morning show today. You can listen again right here.
Cllr Gowland gave a little insignt into the history of the toll – and gave his thoughts on the proposals.
You can read the official proposal document here. The Manchester Ship Canal Company is inviting feedback from the public. You can have your say until 20th August. Cllr Gowland has provided a useful resource / template on his facebook page which may help you with constructing your feedback.
We will keep you updated on the progress with this consultation – with further advice should the proposals pass through to the next stage.
